I was reading WDM's post below about a way to pay back the ripoff artists.
This is an issue that I have struggled with over the years. On one hand, I don't like the idea of just rolling over and taking it. On the other hand, like most hobbyists, I am hesitant to "escalate"-especially when a scammer already knows where I live.
WDM seems to have found the perfect middle ground, that is a measured response between the two poles of doing nothing and going nuclear.
One additional tip: there are various services out there like "bluff my call" (google it) that can make this sort of payback even easier. You can also use a service like this to call a scammer and say something like: "The word on you is out. Please take down your ad."
A lot of ads on CL have coded phone numbers in the ads. The ad I answered ended in 7054, 26 yr old blonde in Newport. She instructed me to meet at the party source, no show.
When I called me she said she was at a bar and wanted to know how much money I had. Didn't want to meet with no money. Total trash baby.
