I did a search on NCTimes and I hadn't realized there had been so many arrests the last several months. But the articles were pretty vague on the nature of the actual stings.
I'm guessing they were hotel / online stings because Encinitas for example has zero street action but they have quite a few hotels.
Best of advice, just remember to stay vigilant and to not get too complacent. If you're meeting someone new don't discuss any unnecessary details and keep the conversation to a minimum. Meeting an escort isn't illegal. So LE has to prove you're actually exchanging money for sexual acts, which is actually pretty difficult if you don't talk explicitly on the phone or txt. It's so much easier for them to make arrests off street action because there's so little wiggle room or grey area for mongers. She may invite you to the incall and then say,"What do you want baby?" or "Is it okay if you use a condom?", and once she asks you to put the donation on the table and you do so, then boom. Under California law you've shown intent to pay for a sex act. A lawyer friend told me about this. You have to be extremely careful with that you say and how you answer questions when you're seeing someone new.

Think about it, how much fines and court fees are made with every bust and all that a LE has to do is put up an ad and wait. Now think about minor drug charges and petty criminals, do you really think they have the means to pay a fine or even issue a ticket to a homeless jay walker. Most are a financial drag on the system.
I carpool with somebody who handles the paperwork at the court and I can tell you as budgets get tight people are getting ticketed for just going over 6 miles over the limit in a 65mph zone. It really sad that LE are now revenue agents instead of protectors of the public. This system is really getting third world here, very sad but true.
