This last point is crucially important for those who have wives, girlfriends, or sensitive job considerations.

Lawyers are great at giving advice that sounds good, in the abstract, but can cause problems in real life. Since there's no way to know the kind of cop you'll encounter, there's a risk you'll run into one who, if you piss them off, will make it their personal mission to f*ck you over. And if you don't think some cops can be hugely petty and vindictive, you should think again.

Playing the "I know my rights" card can result in a cop looking for any pretext to arrest you or call someone to "check out your story" or whatever else they can think of. Most cops have had hundreds or thousands of encounters with uncooperative people and many have honed their "f*ck with you" skills to a high level. And, if you think you can threaten them with a lawsuit, think again. They know most mongers don't want to draw attention to themselves, or their activities, and they know their LE dept will pay for any defence while the monger will have to shell out hard-earned dollars for their own lawyer.

If you're single and self-employed, or otherwise have nothing at risk, by all means go ahead. But, if that's not the case, I would strongly recommend thinking about ways to de-escalate and get out of the encounter without antagonising the cops.

Mongers can decide for themselves, of course, as every situation is unique. There's no way a web lawyer can address every variable so best to consider your own risk environment before following anyone's advice, including mine.
