I ran across these JPG's that someone had shared with me a couple years ago, I think they might be handy for other newcomers and those needing a view around TJ. Hopefully they will be useful for some of you.
I'm sure it's been asked a million times, but how concerned should I be as a white dude who speaks no Spanish? Should I stay north of the border?

It will reopen at some point, for sure.
For general orientation, they are fine.

It is worth picking up a enough Spanish so you know the numbers (at least to $100), days of the week and a few simple phrases.

You can find sex workers who speak various amounts of English, but as a rule of thumb the more English they speak the lower their service and the higher their prices (because they are in demand and can get away with it). If they speak no English and you speak no Spanish, there's still hand signals and money talk -- even the least fluent girl there can still say "One hundred dollars, baby".
But here's the kicker, you phone can translate for you. Really! Install the Google Translate app and download the Spanish pack and you don't even need a data signal. The girls know how it works, and will use their own apps to translate as well. It's pretty easy.

Go to any fast food restaurant in SD and you can barely make out what the employee is saying most of the time. Order a plate of food south of the border and the employee speaks perfect English. Go figure! I would suggest learning some Spanish phrases on one of the free apps so people don't think you have ugly American syndrome. Moe.
I'll be returning to mecca for the first time since before the whole covid disaster. Hopefully, I'll get some quality beach time in the late mornings / early afternoons. Not sure if lyft / uber will be a viable option for that type of endeavor, but I'm going to find out.
I plan on visiting the clubs in Zona Norte the evenings of Aug 16,17, and 18. If anyone from the board will be in the neighborhood any of those days and wants to grab a bite / beer and shoot the shit, reach out via pm. I'm pretty laid back.

Does anybody know what happened yesterday afternoon? Apparently a girl got shot inside one of the clubs. Not sure if it was Hong Kong. I just saw the video on tik tok. Any info is appreciated. I was thinking of taking a trip today but now I don't know.
