This [I]just happened[/I]:

I'm driving along King Street, just past Punahou. I'm waiting at the light and checking out this cute girl standing on the corner waiting to cross the street. She's maybe in her late 20's or so, caucasian, short brown hair, cute and waif-like. There's something about the way she's looking at passing cars like she's trying not to be noticed checking them out, and she catches me looking at her. Gives me a little half smile and raised eyebrow, like, what're you going to do about it?

Well fuck, I'm going to pull over is what. And sure enough, she stops by the car and gives me a big smile.

"What're you up to tonight?" she asks.

"Me? Nothing yet. But maybe you could help me be up to something," I say.

"That sounds like an invitation," she says, and gets into the car.

Her name is Violet, she's from Seattle, hasn't been here too long. We negotiate a price of $. 5 for BBBJ and go somewhere secluded to take care of business. Shortly after seeing that report, I did walk around outside that downtown Walmart. Although unfortunately I didn't see Kristen, I was approached by an able-bodied young man who said "You got a dollar?" No reason given, unlike the more effective panhandlers who have some sort of sympathetic story. So even though I did have money, I replied: "Sorry, I spent all my money on hookers" (probably a response that he had never before received). After pausing to think about that, he replied: "Man, that's fucked up". LOL.

I agree that if you're going to pay $$ or even $. 5 you might as well go to an AMP. For. 5 or $ more you get a long time, nice clean room and space, and in 95% of the cases, a younger hotter girl. You might have to be just as desperate as the walkers to chance it out there. I admit, there are a very few handful of gems out there, but even those gems can be topped easily at any AMP.

Also, there are a ton of mahus out there, and they are nasty and vicious. Once I eyed one, thinking it was a 'her' and she lied to me about being a girl, asked for money upfront, and ran out of my car before anything. Also if you try to confront one, they get loud and violent.

For all the reasons you gave and more. What changed, for me is that I'm old, and I have time to explore at all hours. Downtown in the morning after daylight, you might meet a girl who has been up all night and lost too much money in the gambling houses. Mid day you'll start to see more of the professionals looking for work with the lunch time customers. By Mid afternoon the drug addicts are awake and sending their girlfriends out to earn money. And at night, you're right, the mahus and she males work better under the cover of darkness. Downtown is not for everybody.

Seriously, though, I completely agree that the downtown streetwalker scene isn't for every monger. Additionally, as recognized by another member, it can be more rewarding for those mongers who "have time to explore at all hours". Here are several of the reasons why I've enjoyed downtown over the years. (1) Cost -- prices are generally negotiable, and sometimes great bargains can be found by akamai shoppers. In my experience, it's rare that a downtowner won't go below the range you referenced ($150 to $200), and most of them (especially away from the Longs area) often go far below that range. (2) Service -- in general, downtown providers are more often willing to engage in activities that are usually unavailable from many AMP providers, at least at standard AMP prices. Also, although downtown provider use of drugs/booze can be good or bad, depending on the particular provider, it sometimes can result in wildly enjoyable experiences. (3) Variety -- most of the AMP providers are Asian women, and although I love Asian women, I also love diversity. I've experienced a wonderful diversity of providers downtown, including types of women never or rarely seen working at AMPs. Plus, the white women whom I've known downtown have frequently had much better personalities and attitudes than the typical white women in AMPs.

By the way, the description of (unmentionables) as "nasty and vicious" is a stereotype. Many are, but there are also some who aren't.
