They get real specific when it come to how much they are paid, but mum and shy for what they will do. Then after they give you their rate. I usually try and catch those traveling providers with good reviews and they tend to deliver a good bang for the buck as well. Some of the takeout at the local strip joints are better than some of the providers on backpage. Just my experience.

For whatever reason, I have always been on the high end of the YMMV scale. I have had several of the providers even (at least faking it well) seem to actually show some real feelings toward me. In those cases I get great mileage.

I think the key for me is to try to weed out the ones with the big drug problems and threat the ones I meet really nice. If you want GFE you need to act like the BF (be clean, kind, etc). Over the years I have know of few of them in the real world and they (at least the ones without a drug problem) seem to have a common problem of men treating them badly. If you treat them nice, it sometimes goes a long way with them. This likely works better with the ones I look for (older verses younger). A 22 year old with a perfect body is not going to appreciate it as much as a 40 year old with a few flaws.

Many are not going to give you suggestions as you could be uncle LEO due to no previous reports. I rarely even talk price on the phone, but most girls want to know whether a 1/2 hour or hour on the phone. If I am unsure, I will go with a half hour, and "upgrade" after I get there. It just seems like a safer way to go. Once you start talking services on the phone I think you are setting yourself up if it is the first time with a provider and you start talking services and it turns out to be Uncle LEO.
