They went to a known brothel and took home some things from the menu. He tried to pull a fast one and not pay what was agreed to. Probably felt that being SS, that he would be untouchable and nothing would come from this.

Well that idiot and only that idiot should be held accountable if prostitution is legal in that country as for the other nineteen or so identified they've really done nothing wrong and since these incidents happened there the argument that their action was unbecoming of an employee working for government, shouldn't even be an issue, morally or legally. Be interesting to see how far our judicial branch will allow the executive branch to take issue with those involved, and how much disciplinary action can be allowed. In my eyes, not much.

In my eyes, not much.[/QUOTE]Actually, according to the news, the concern is that these guys were there to prep for the POTUS visit and conceivably could have divulged info to compromise security, including leaving written stuff in the room. Of course, others doubt that would be the case. It's just embarrassing. Although, also according to news reports, the SS has a policy that agents aren't supposed to cavort with prostitutes while on the job. I guess if you're a SS agent you can hire a prostitute if you're on vacation in Colombia. LOL

Whether or not the SS agents were legally or morally 'free' to indulge in what would be a legal practice in Columbia is irrelevant. The agents, by spending time with prostitutes, put themselves in a potentially compromising position.

Supposedly most of the agents are married. Picture a conversation taking place sometime after the event, that sounds something like this; Hey Mr. SS man, I need access to the president's schedule, car, family, office; and if you don't tell me what I want to know I'm going to tell your wife you were with a pro in Columbia. Even though there's been nothing reported that the ladies were anything more than escorts, the possibility exists that the agents set themselves up for possible blackmailing in the future. When you're position contributes to the security of the POTUS, your every action has to be above reproach.

Everyone who has a security clearance (especially at the level of these men) knows their clearance can be revoked at any time, for any reason. In other words, they serve at the pleasure of the Secret Service.

As for the military folks involved, the same holds true. Each of them would have had a high level clearance, and they should have had an understanding of the ramifications of putting themselves and by extension the mission and protectee (POTUS) in jeopardy.

As a member of this sight it should be evident that I have no problem with adults partaking in adult activities, there was a time in my life that I had to put the hobby on hold for much the same reasons, anything less would have been dumb. Many may recognize the name Clayton Lonetree. Sgt Lonetree, a Marine attached to the US Embassy, Moscow became involved with a woman who turned out to be a KGB operative. She and her handler were able to use the relationship (which was against the rules) to blackmail Lonetree to gain access to the embassy in the middle of the night. It's still not known exactly what intelligence they were able to gather during their visits.

It is very simple: It is against the code of conduct for Secret Service agents to engage in prostitution. It does NOT matter if it is legal in the country where they.

Were doing it. They violated the rules and will have to face the consequences.

That's high for US standard. No way can be that much in a semi third world place like Columbia. I remember watching the news and they said the going rate was only $60!
