Maybe it would work, but I don't see how.

And as a retired long time taxi driver most drivers won't take you unless you have a specific address and not cross streets.

It'd be trivial to say, ask the driver to drop you off at a supermarket or restaurant or whatever, and then get another ride from there to the apartment complex.
