I think a hotel is the logical option. Heck I can even think of a couple plausible stories for why you might be staying in a hotel and / or ways that you can present it in a way that is even more attractive. One is work being done on my house (flood damage / remodel) the other is the whole in town for business (but get here regularly) looking to party.

I do think it helps if you already have the room. It supports your cover story and / it keeps you from fumbling around for one when it is time to use it. As Tiger suggested this is an impulsive decision you need to be able to close.
