It's been controlled by Democrats for most of the 40+ years I've lived in the area, save for a brief period in the early 1990's. I'd classify Virginia as a blue-leaning purple state which occasionally elects Republicans (for example, the previous governor). Yet I doubt partisan politics plays as much of a role in crackdowns on MP's, providers, and mongers as much as angry wives, owners of nearby businesses, and public interest groups who are quick to slap the human trafficking label on consenting adults activities in which money is exchanged. Since there's no such thing as a mongers' lobby or a providers' lobby, mongers and providers will have to live with this state of affairs until such time as the courts declare consenting adults activities to be fully legal even if an exchange of money is involved.
