Seeing Doc Wayne's post in the Co & Mo thread about police cruisers reminded me of something I recently noticed, and I thought I'd pass it along just as a heads-up. Maybe you folks have seen it before and knew about it, but it was my first time.

On the H1 Freeway in the Eastbound direction (in the Kaimuki area), under the Westbound off-ramp to Kapiolani Boulevard, there is a large pillar (for the off-ramp) and wedge-shaped space (under the off-ramp).

LE hides on the far side of the pillar in that space, and is not visible until you pass by and then it is too late. The unit then moves-into traffic, accelerating to follow the targeted vehice for a pull-over. In heavy traffic motorists seem unsure of just who is being pulled over, so traffic gets 'confused' for a bit until the targeted vehicle is singled-out.

People who frequent that section will be familiar; just a heads-up when heading home at night, or even during the day after work because of the sudden congestion and lane changes by other cars.

This is not just because of the obvious drug / SW activity. I have a few friends on the force and they tell me that this area is where they train rookies for traffic stops. They'll usually pair up a rookie with a vet and they'll stop you for any minor infraction. Not signalling, improper lane change, failure to come to a complete stop, etc. If you're lucky they may let you go with a warning if the rook is getting the hang of procedure. However if they're just learning, they'll probably write you up since they have to go through the entire process. Be careful out there brothers.

One of the famous ones was that right turn off of Pali onto Kukui Street; an unmarked would sit on Kukui facing Pali and nab guys for not signalling the turn. There were many others, as you noted.

Kalihi reportedly had a cocky cop who would tag guys near the old Cleopatra for not coming to complete stops at the stop signs, among other things. After a while, I got tired of seeing so much LE in Kalihi; blue and white, unmarked, plain clothes foot patrol, and more or less 'quit while I was ahead' since the bars went downhill anyway.

Went to court four times with pictures and measurements and still had to pay. The cops lied.

Be thankful it wasn't something really serious, you be in the shit house, they'll lie and embellish their case just to look good and get THE conviction. Unfortunately the court always believes them. Those perjurerous *tards.

Makes it easier to build their probable cause BS without opposition; they can say anything they want without any witnesses for the other side. Helps to be five-against-one when you not too smart.

I turned and was pulled over from the side walk cop, from the stop sign to the curb were I pulled over was 60 feet 3 car lenths. I could only go up to 5 mph in that short of distance. The judge belived the cops. I walk out of the court room and saw the cop sitting with 5 other cops, I walked up to him and said you won the case because you lied in front of all the other cops.

In Oakland I was turning in some bosses that was steeling from the public water company [ millions of dollars] and they didn't like that so they called the Oakland police and told them that I was going to bring a gun to work and shoot people. Later that week 12 Oakland police was waiting for me when I came home and asked me do you have a 50 cal machine gun I told them no so they asked my 10 year old son to show them were all my guns were. I only had my borther's 357 magum from when he was a detective from the Honolulu police dept. And old ww2 rifles and two hunting shot guns. I told the police to call the FBI they know all about it and they just laughed. I was working with the FBI at the time and the police got in trouble for not calling. But anyway they didn't fine that 50 cal so two weeks later they MAILED me a warrent for me. They said I was waring a gun when they stopped me. I had no gun on me I just came from the airport picked up my mom. In the car was my wife. 10 year old son and his friend. Make a long story short I sued the water company, Oakand police, and the city of Oakland and won all 3 cases. No police showed up in court. Got a full retirement at 51 years old but I went trough a lots of stress.

The cops story to the judge must have been totally false. I guess since it was such a petty charge it wasn't even worth getting a lawyer. I would have still at least consulted a lawyer to see if any lawsuits could have been made. Sounds like they were out to get you.

A couple of times I was given tickets for something I felt deserved a warning instead, but many times they let me off when they had good reason to haul my ass away!

I did have a friend tell me that he was rear ended by cops once. The two cops got out of the car and pulled my friend out of his, threw him up against a wall and threatened him if he followed up with a report or insurance claim or anything. Told him to drive away or he'd be sorry and arrested for all kinds of shit. This dude is a straight shooter too so I know it was true!
