As I am the first to condemn Sheriff Judd, I wish to put in a good word for Mr. Ashton. I have met and worked with him in a business setting, a charitable setting, and a social setting. I do believe Mr. Ashton kept his public activity separate from his private life. I hope he can survive the embarrassment to his family. His children are some of the nicest kids I have ever met and he is very involved in their lives. So ease off on the guy. So he gave in to a little curiosity. What monger among us has not given in to much greater curiosities?

First, he is not some clerk in the office, Jeff Ashton is the States Attorney for Orange and Osceola counties (Ninth Judicial Circuit). Second, he did not just visit the site once but repeatedly over a two year period. Given that it is a pay site, it is hard to believe that he did not make any contact (as he claims) with other members. Third, any time someone uses the term "honestly" it has been my experience they are lying. Fourth, ongoing poor judgment in one area often is indicative of poor judgment in other areas.

Most significantly personal failures often bleed over into professional ones. Imagine if an opposing attorney or criminal defendant found out about his repeated visits to this site and used it against him in the course of a case. Finally, he didn't come forward until he was caught. He didn't just one day decide to come clean.

BTW -- The Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is a permanent, multi-agency task force which was formed in Central Florida in December of 1978. The founding member agencies of the MBI are the State Attorney of the Ninth Judicial Circuit, the Orange County Sheriff's Office, and the Orlando Police Department.

When you make your living sitting in judgment of other people, your own life better be beyond reproach.

He said he never met anyone but admitted to staying on the site for almost two years. Does two years sound like curiosity to you? Now for all the others that have not admitted, the government and media are only proving what the hackers did is OK. The government is going to start looking into the email addresses from data that #1 cannot be guaranteed as accurate, and #2 using data that was obtained illegally. So all you are doing is saying that data breaches are OK if it contains information that we want. Why were filters not already in place to prevent this in the first place?

Far worse than what we have here.
