Not looking at the bigger picture. These women you speak of are (a) likely already damaged before taking on sex work, (b) taking on too many clients and burning out as as a subsequent result or (c) letting the stigma of sex work get to them. Perhaps a combination of all three. Believe me when I say most women have had the thought in the back of their heads to take on sex work in one form or another. I think the main way that sex work tends to change our attitudes is realizing how much adultery is going on and how many seemingly perfect marriages are a farce. Since I would prefer an open relationship over a monogamous one this hasn't bothered me so much aside from the occasional wife who calls me balling her eyes out.

I know that some girls use the buddy system and let each other know who might be bad for business. Then there are the extremes, where you get an hour long screening and show up and the pictures are completely off or from like 10 years ago, disappointing. I belonged to p-411 for awhile and used a provider who was a member also as a reference to another p-411 provider who I was interested in seeing. She rejected the reference because my reference hadn't been in the business long enough to suit her. Go figure. After that I let my membership expire. References are good but the line has to be open between providers for it to work.

I know some girls who won't accept a reference if she advertises on BP or her rate is not considered "high end". We run into problems too. I once called an agency for a reference and they informed me they don't give references to indie girls. Others refuse to give references and a couple actually want the client to pay them to use them as a reference. It's an imperfect system but most tend to be agreeable as long as that client doesn't abuse it. I have one that's been trying to use me as a reference forever and I only met him once 4 years ago. I feel more relieved that maybe I avoided a bad situation with small-town LE. It's kind of hard to believe anything said by a troll so I put a greater amount of trust in the anecdotal evidence seen by me and my friends as well as those who are on the oTHeR site's provider board. As for screening being a danger to clients. The statistics on client deaths and arrests as a result of seeing a provider seem to be quite lower than the reverse.
