The market is the market and doesn't care if you like it or not. And BP, for all its faults, is the best reflection of the market we have. There have been plenty of discussions about why the DMV hobby is the way it is and plenty of theories.

The one that makes most sense to me is that this area has a higher percentage of potential clients who, for whatever reason, are more willing to overpay and less willing to do homework and comparison shop.

But the bottom line is that the DMV attracts many providers who come from high-cost cities (SF, LA, NY) and many charge higher rates than they do in their home cities. In addition to the demand-side, it's also possible the supply-side (as in less competition) could be a contributing factor.

Whatever the reasons, the only thing you can do is to learn the local market as best you can and make decisions with the big head after doing lots of homework. There are good deals to be had but they're not going to drop into your lap.

One reason I kept turning toward the Asian crapshoot is the number of non-Asian providers who wanted far more money than I was willing to pay. As JimSuttr said, the best thing you can do is learn the local market and do your homework before seeing a provider.

She was working out of a basement apt in a townhouse, but rumor is she may have been evicted. I never pulled the trigger as the common theme in all her reviews was the dirty environment (and I had a dream at the PI once, ONCE ONLY, and it was super sketchy). Helene has been around for several years. She used to be out of centreville when she lived with shelly, another massage provider.
