Can the leo be held responsible or are they at risk for termination / suspension when they do theses undercover stings, I guess I understand your undercover so when asked you can't say I'm a cop to the girl, but if they are doing a drug sting and the dealer sells them some crack, at that point they got him for selling, so what if after the purchase the leo goes ahead and smokes the crack with the dealer right there, whats the law then, didn't leo over step boundaries? In 1501 case undercover made the deal, got fondled in room a bit, then moved onto shower where he let the whole act carry out to completion, then got dressed, gave the money and walked out, then returned to tell them, he was police, The girls did wrong, I'm not debating that, but I have to believe this officer has to be open to some disciplinary action, if not I'm sure his wife / gf, parents, kids would be proud to hear how far he took this just to get a lousy ticket, so if you have answers I would like to hear.
The description you lay out would result in the undercover officer likely being disciplined and the case up to that point would be difficult to make. While an undercover officer is permitted to lie and commit small infractions (I. E. Making the deal, paying for the product / service) , typically they are not permitted to go beyond this point. When they do go beyond this point, the case is then on shaky ground, which is more reason to not admit to anything. An undercover officer is usually only permitted to go past the line you describe, if their life or another persons' life is at risk and even then the undercover operation ends immediately.
If the courts are allowing cases to go through in which officers are breaking the law to this point, then that is very problematic.
Another possibility which may be being overlooked is if the guy who carried out the sting was actually a C. I. (confidential informant). In this case the C. I. Is allowed to go further than an undercover officer, but his actions typically must be checked out with superiors before carrying through with the act. Just putting that out there.
