Not local to us but heard am interesting story on npr this morning about police in Houston being taught mandarin so they can better communicate with the growing local asian population. The story later led into the MPs in town and the police say this will help them "build trust" with the locals. I dunno about ya'll but to me police trying to build trust generally means make an easy arrest and be the hero on the news without having to do any real honest police work.

IMO the damage closing the AMP's around this area has been done already. Cities that are saturated with AMP's that are on LE radar I'd say this statement would apply. Around these parts to spend tax payers money to train LE officers a foreign language to help protect and serve the public, they would be more wise to train officers to speak Spanish. Mandarin would be a waste IMO.
