She is very nice, she had a crappy phone that had a screen that would go in and out so sometimes she didn't receive calls. I don't think there's a norm. In fact, I think in general you're probably better off trying to schedule something on shorter notice. Most providers are way to flaky to actually stick to an appointment made days in advance. Not all, but most. I think you could certainly try and set something up in advance but not really plan to have anything definite until that day.

Each time was followed by apologies, and the "I will make it up to you." Twice has claimed medical problems, once a phone problem. I have never actually driven to her neighborhood as I am not going to waste the time until I have a confirming phone call the morning of. I too got the mass text, and the email saying she was retiring. So who knows.
