ATTLEBORO — A prostitution sting at a South Attleboro motel over the weekend resulted in the arrests of six "Johns," who allegedly arranged to meet an undercover police officer posing as a woman offering sex for cash.

The suspects were arraigned in Attleboro District Court Monday on charges of offering to engage in sexual conduct for a fee, soliciting prostitution and attempting to commit a crime.

Innocent pleas were entered on their behalf and all are free on their own recognizance.

The suspects are: , 40, of Cranston; , 26, of Pawtucket, 64, of Foxboro; , *57, of Pawtucket; , 64, of Providence and * 36, of Warwick.

Detective Lt. Timothy * Jr. Said police set up the sting at a room at the motel with the cooperation of the owner and motel management.

Police placed advertisements on websites that offer escort services and individuals seeking sex. An undercover police officer answered the text messages arranging a meeting for sex allegedly sent by the defendants.

In the text messages, the undercover officer offered sex acts for between $60 and $120. The defendants allegedly agreed to meet at the motel and were directed to the room in the text conversations.

Advertisement.

Police seized cash and cellphones from the defendants as evidence.

In the past, police say they have responded to the motel for disturbances, drug violations, drug overdoses, sex assaults and other criminal activity.

C said the motel management and owners agreed to cooperate because they have noticed an "uptick" in incidents requiring a police response and wanted to address the issues.

The suspects are due back in court at later dates for pretrial hearings.
