Furthermore, language learning is a social skill so immediate feedback will give you the best lesson, luckily for me I can take a weekend trip and take an Uber to the Zona Rio or hang out at the plaza del zapato and talk to locals who will correct some words but otherwise keep a conversation going.

All they want is to go to the back room where you pull out 20 dollars and hand it them and BAM! Your in Mexico. Getting back is easy as long as your a citizen. In case you decide to get a passport then I would strongly suggest you also get a passport card. It costs $40 and it looks just like and ID card or driver license. It's the same size as your drivers license and fits in your wallet slots.
You have the option to get the card when you apply for a passport or renew one. You only need this card when coming back from Mexico.
