If the cameras were inside, then LE must have had the cooperation of the staff. If so, then I don't think the "evidence" will have much importance in court. If the cameras were outside, then they don't prove anything. After all, a man could have been lost and gone in for directions or hoping there was a coke machine inside.

If the cameras are outside then all they could get is your tag numbers or seeing you go inside. Just like Lex said they don't know what you were doing inside. I mean hell, it is a massage parlor either you getting a massage or even your back and chest waxed. My opinion I would hard to prove what was happening inside if they only saw you on the outside going in. If you were on film entering a building that was proven to be a cathouse and it was shown through credit transactions that you spent $230 while there, I could easily see a predominantly Baptist Lexington county jury handing down a guilty verdict.

Honestly, I'd recommend - your friend - to find a nice lawyer and sit tight...wait for shit to blow over. Just be ready with a lawyer. John E. Law can be real pricks if they want to...the more frequent the use of plastic, the more likely they can use various other laws based on interstate banking and such.
If the general public begins to demand heads, it could blow up pretty huge. I doubt it, but something to be aware of.
BTW...NEVER admit anything to a LEO. Whether your friend's credit card is used against him AND they have video evidence. Have your friend talk to a lawyer asap. He'll be glad he did. Let the lawyer do all of the talking for him. It -could- save his skin if LEO comes a knockin.
I've sweat a similar bullet before in my days. They have a 1 year statue of limitations on the misdemeanor. I broke open a good bottle of brandy that night the statute ran out.

Apparently SC law states the punishment for first timer is either a $200 fine or 30 days in jail. I can't believe that they would push for jail for a first timer for something like that.
I doubt he'll ever use plastic at a place like that again.

Good point, but that's why most massage parlor stings are primarily intended to take down the providers. As I said before, it can be kind of tricky to prove a client's guilt (they'd have to somehow sneak in and plant cameras; this isn't likely to happen); but how hard can it be to hide a miniature "spy-cam" in a cellphone of pager (answer- not very hard at all)? In fact, I seem to remember an aromatherapy joint here in Cola not too long ago on Bush River Rd. - they wouldn't allow any customers to carry cell phones, pagers, or other electronic-type gadgets in the building.
Now that I think about it, the camera footage from outside may have been used for future reference (i.e., if they somehow manage to catch a customer in a future bust they can use this as evidence against him - just a guess).

No one should sweat over a $200 ticket and a 5 minute lecture from a judge. You should spend no longer than a hour or two in the pen before bail and your lawyer is arranged.

Cruised Columbia today found things improving.
