The increase in cases is directly attributed to the massive boost in testing, especially in the clinical environment. This virus impacts those with underlying health issues. That said if you are in that risk profile by all means avoid high volume contact. If you aren't you have nothing to fear. Some estimate are that we have an 80%plus exposure rate in the US. 85% present asymptomatic. Just use common sense. I personally wash frequently and refrain from touching my face. There was a two month old story about a 51 year old guy in NYC who ran marathons and died of covid though. Maybe you got the age wrong?
