Surveillance Camera and Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR):
Hi DB,
Good reporting on the use of Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR): on patrol cars.
Last year my neighbor had his vehicle stolen from his drive way. L. A. County Sheriff patrols my neighborhood and took a report. They also asked me for videos taken by my home surveillance camera system. I did noticed on their cruiser that it was equipped with an Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR). Currently each sheriff station only have a limited number of vehicles that are equipped with this system.
You'll probably noticed on major streets / boulevard intersections have cameras (not the red light type). Most of these cameras are for traffic flow control and not connected to a central monitor station. But in certain cities, there are HD cameras with pan / tilt / zoom (PTZ) that LE does monitor in real time from a remote central monitor station. There are traffic corridors that are equipped with fixed License Plate Recognition (ALPR).

[QUOTE=DildoBaggens;2259267]Hate to be an alarmist, but they did run your plates, they may have even video'd you if the cruiser was so equipped. I've been on plenty of ride-a-longs to know this to be true. In the future, try to park away from the facility, enough so that you have to turn a corner. If you see LE, duck into another store or shop until they depart. Also, the private sector is getting involved too. Read the WJS article and you'll cringe.

New Digital Age of Surveillance
Hi DB,
Big Brother and businesses with the use of technology are constantly doing data gathering on the masses! Every time you use your credit card, checkout books from a library, when you surf the web, make a phone call (land line or cellular), book a flight, buy gas for your vehicle, etc. Will add to the data base (DB) on your activities. If Big Brother had their way, we be in a cashless society and everything would have a digital foot print. With NSA doing massive global data collection for the purpose The data center is alleged to be able to process "all forms of communication, including the complete contents of private emails, cell phone calls, and Internet searches, as well as all types of personal data trails—parking receipts, travel itineraries, bookstore purchases, and other digital 'pocket litter'.

New software (some of it artificial intelligent based) combined with new technology (including super computing) provides enhanced facial recognition, voice recognition (direct or visual), and voice synthesis (not robotic sounding).
Big Brother's end goal is based on an omniscient point-of-view (to be all knowing). As long as the technology don't become rogue or manipulative of our rights and freedoms that we cherish!

Local LE Depending More on Multi-Agencies on MP Busts / Investigations.
Hi DB and all.
Many smaller cities LE are utilizing multi-agencies in cracking down on MPs. This news article described how the Azusa PD (SGV) enlist other partners, including it's city Code Enforcement Division, California Employment Development Department, Department of Industrial Relations, and the L. A. County Sheriff's Department's Major Crimes Bureau (Licensing Unit) in the investigation of MPs. This practice was also utilized in the SEM busts several months ago.

Technology Lead to the Rescue of a Abdution Victim
Hi all,
More on how technology comes to the rescue of a crime victim. Recently a Philadelphia woman was abducted, but fortunately the incident was captured under video surveillance. Video on the get away vehicle from a traffic-camera, lead to the dealership's name from on a image of the car. The GPS device was attached because the dealer who sold the car feared it might need to be repossessed because of the owner's bad credit report. LE then asked the dealership to turn on the car's GPS and provide the vehicle's location. The GPS led officers directly to the parking lot where they spotted a man fitting the suspect's description with a young woman in the back seat of a sedan like the one used in the abduction. Since this case made the national news headlines, many of our citizens were on alert. Because of the news, a woman in Maryland found some trash in her yard. The items included an empty bag of potato chips and a receipt from a supermarket in Philadelphia. From the receipt, the investigators found surveillance footage at the store that provided a clear view of the purchaser. In addition, LE initially tracked the abductor's movement through his use of victimss ATM card, which first showed up in Maryland.
I have heard that many late model cars, may have a remote kill switch installed to disable it.
We live in interesting times!
