State trooper from Salem arrested with prostitute.
SALEM — A Massachusetts state trooper from Salem was arrested in Lynn early this morning and charged with soliciting a prostitute and then refusing to stop for Lynn police officers who approached his vehicle.
Efrain Montanez. 50, was observed by Lynn police officers picking up a suspected prostitute near Central Square. Police followed Montanez' truck and, when it stopped, observed him in a sexual act with the woman, according to police. When an officer displayed a badge, Montanez fled, backing up and nearly hitting a Lynn officer. He then led police on a chase through Lynn. He was eventually pulled over, and is charged with unnatural acts, assault with a dangerous weapon (his truck) , failure to stop for police and a stop sign violation.
Montanez, a 27-year veteran of the State Police, was was arraigned in Lynn District Court and released on personal recognizance.
State police relieved him of duty early this morning and scheduled a hearing on his duty status for later in the day.
