GentleJester is right on. I haven't been since 2006, but I've stayed on the strip during 6 different trips. Tried the "trick" 4 times, and the results varied. Was upgraded the first time at The Flamingo. Was given the money back the second time at MGM, with a nasty look. Had the $20 taken at the Hard Rock, with no aparent upgrade. And on the 4th trip / attempt, was given an upgrade from the angle rooms to one of the (at the time) new tower at The Luxor.

I too have found it to be about 50-50 and it depends a lot on where you stay. When I stay at the MGM I always check in at their airport location and it worked for me the last couple of times I have tried it there. Getting a room upgrade is not a big deal for me now so I have not tried it that past few times I have been there.

Once at Caesars Palace I booked a room for $149 and upon check in they overbooked and they accommodated me with executive suite which cost $449. That didn't cost me a dime. YMMV.

Sorry for the super lengthy report but I just wanted to give back to the community with as much info as possible.
First things first, I am a brand new to this hobby and although I've taken MANY trips to Vegas in my life, this is the first time I came equipped with the knowledge that a WHOLE different world exists from what I have known previously (gambling, shows, shopping and food) I'm a good looking clean cut 30 yo Asian guy (an honest 9/10) and although I have a crazy appetite for sex, my main shortcoming is that I have no game and am not comfortable trying to pick up chicks. Picture all boy prep school guys guy that like sports, etc.
Being tied up with friends all weekend, I actually did not go hunting until my VERY last night in Vegas. It was 1 AM on my final night and I HAD to see what I was missing.
I read the previous posts about where the CGs are located and here's my first comment. DAMN you guys do a LOT of walking. I run 3 miles 3-4 times a week and that night (Sunday Jan 8th) , I covered a LOT of ground walking between PH to Harrahs, cross over to Caesar's and Bellagio and back to PH. I did this circuit a few times and by the end, I was pretty tired. (LOL)
I saw the most action outside Flamingos. I saw both WCGs and BCGs. They normally walk in 2s or 3s. It's funny because in the past, I just thought these girls were girls that were on their way or coming out of a club.
If there ever is 1 CG, they usually are walking to meet up with another CG, etc.
It could be a personal taste thing but from what I saw, I was more attracted to the BCGs than the WCGs as the WCGs skin tone wasn't very good which might have been from drug use. The BCGs might have the same issue but maybe their skin tone hid it better? I would rate most of the BCGs I saw as 7/10 and the WCGs as 5. 5/10 (Obviously there were some 2/10 as well)
Anyway, while I saw a lot of action outside Flamingo I wanted to see EVERYTHING as this was my first hunt so I crossed the street from Flamingo to Caesar's. As I was crossing Las Vegas Blvd, I met eyes with a cute *BCG 8/10. Good body, pretty face. Part of me wanted to talk to her but it all happened too fast and I was chicken so I walked.
Past her despite meeting eyes. I also wanted to see how the quality differed on the good (rich) side of the strip (Caesar's, Bellagio).
Caesar's was pretty disappointing as I didn't see much there.
I then moved on to Bellagio. The shops area near the entrace at Bellagio was completly dead and the cleaning guys were cleaning the carpet.
However, as soon as I entered the casino area, it was much more alive. Now here was the issue I had in Bellagio. Like I wrote previously, I think I'm being pretty honest when rate myself a 9. Girls do check me out quite often. I don't know if the quality was just higher in Bellagio but I had trouble in trying to differentiate between a CG and a regular club girl. As soon as I walked in, I saw a BlackAsian mixed girl. We met eyes and she said Hi to me and she was walking with another girl. She seemed a little drunk and I don't know if she was coming out of The Bank. I was 70% sure she was a CG but not a 100.

I didn't want her to know this was my first time as I didn't want her to overcharge so I tried to let her do the talking. I mainly asked questions and had her do the talking.
Me: How's your night was going?
Her: It's going good but I have some ideas that could make it even better.

I asked about video once to a ATF. I figured it was 60/40 she would say yes. I got a polite,"No." I didn't push the subject, but as an regular I think I could've gotten it for another $50-100.
I have no idea about your Bellagio query. I think the price would be way too high. You were there on a Sunday night? Maybe the price would be lower, but look at the minimums for the table games on the Bellagio floor. The lowest BJ table is $25 / hand. The prices will start at $500. I've always found the Bellagio tough because the floor is basically a main causeway to the shops, and then you have three or so restaurants on the floor, the buffet, and the theater. It can be tough to decipher the CGs vs. The women in their nice dinner / show attire.

I'll be back in mid Feb for a week and staying at Flamingo which is about the only Caesars Entertainment (aka Harrahs) property in Las Vegas (outside of Caesars Palace where all the girls seem to want $$$$$ or more) with dependable CG action. At least they have been in the past. And a big benefit to the MGM, you can actually check in at the airport and bypass having to check in at the hotel itself.
Spent a few nights at the Flamingo. I am experienced at looking for the CG and you can't miss them. In fact, they can't miss you if you give them eye contact. One even got on the elevator with me. I had to say no, not my type. Tall black lady, cute, but not my "cup of tea". They are sitting at any of the three bars in the place. There were even two in the early afternoon, but I think they were sitting with their pimp. They asked me where I was going and they could go with me.
I did hit up with a cute blond one night, at the bar close to the elevators. About a 7 on a 10 scale. $150. She said they were in pairs and she texted her friend when she got to the room. Happy hunting.
