It's a shortcut to being burdened by texting a response to the dozens inquiries they receive. I don't take it personally and the provider appreciates it. You go to the trouble of providing a reference and she flakes on you. Lesson learned: Never verify your trustworthiness until you have a solid appointment. If the provider doesn't at least agree to that then I'm moving on.
