Each of them I had to pay a new start up fee (substantial to get the phone services running again after it lapsed.) That is, at some point someone either forgot or we / I didn't want to keep putting money of a secondary phone that I wasn't using.) I think the ATT fee was $50 and Tracfone was about $40. The Tmobile was along time ago, but it wasn't cheap either. So I guess since I'm not an expert on the technical side of these phones capabilities (and don't care because they're usually for limited use anyway), the primary factor I use to compare them is cost. Bottom line: I have yet to find one that doesn't charge or has a nominal re-start fee. With that said I haven't taken the time to do a definitive search either. I wonder about some of these other companies and how much more competitive they might be (Cricket, MetroPCS). If I find one without a re-start fee I'll pm you.

Boost, virgin mobile, tmobile, tracphone you can all put under a fake name. Contract phones require legal and real information. Do not renew with a credit card or bank account.
