It's basic business and survival sense. Too many hobbyists needlessly throw away money that they could save and enjoy the hobby more often.
Hobbyists are often just too timid to press for a lower price. What they're paying the extra money for boils down to them just trying to make sure the girl still likes them rather than approaching this as a business deal. Just like other types of business deals, those who know how to drive a good bargain are typically the most respected in the end. I've done this countless times, and I know it works.

If I were rich, I wouldn't care about dickering either, and I realize many from "up north" come down for the winter and have two homes because they have a bunch of spending money that the locals lack. Some local hobbyists get downright pissed because those with more money drive up prices. I get annoyed at times, but I don't really get pissed.
I don't know how much my looks play into it, but I definitely know using my personality makes a big impact. Using charm and being genuinely personable certainly helps. I know many guys (not saying that you do) negotiate by just being aholes which I'm sure results in some success. However, these same guys are the ones the girls despise and may try to get back at them somehow. That's an old school, shitty way of doing business and a terrible way to treat girls.
As for the girls just saying to drop them off, that puzzles me. It's quite rare that a girl really goes through with being dropped off with me. Do you maybe immediately give in to the rate she demands?
