All the Federales that will be here for the conference will be getting $90+ for food and amenities, so they will be amply supplied when they are here. No only that, they will be staying in the best hotels too.
Cruising through waikiki the other night, you can see a lot more s. W. Activity along kuhio ave. Looks like the mainland girls are already here, establishing their 'spots'.

Maybe I'm guilty of being a little self centered here but this apec thing should just go elsewhere it's already a headache and they haven't even arrived yet. I can't surf my beach, how the hell are they going to pull that off?

Especially the business in and around that area that will be off-limits or very hard to get to.

These trees have shallow roots so can you imagine the next high wind or hurricane we get. What about when the coconuts start forming. How many lanes will close for the land scaper to cut the nuts and old leaves off? DUH!

I think those are all royal palms or similar so you don't have to worry about your nuts.

If it wasn't a big enough reason to make the place look nice before for all to enjoy the the hell now? It's not like these foreigners are going to say "OMG, Nimitz looks terrible, let's have our meeting on Guam"!

I agree with you on everything else. Why spend all this money now to beautify a stretch of Highway so some foreign clowns think it is pretty on their drive from the airport to Waikiki. Like you said, what are they going to do? Leave because a stretch of highway median didn't have plants? The only good thing out of this, is that some local landscapers and tree nurseries are making some money right now in this bad econmoy, when things are really slow for them.

More apec
I think Hawaii should host APEC every month but in a different location: Waipahu in December, Nanakuli in January, Waianae in February, etc. That way the city and State will come and beautify those areas, repave the roads and clear out the homeless from each place! Oh wait a minute, nevermind. It's only temprary because as soon as the delegates leave, the projects will be forgotten. What was I thinking?

Lots of Toilet Flushing
Somewhere areound 20, 000 attendees.
Okay do the math, each person takes a dump once or twice a day and pees at least 6 times or more. So for each person that means flushing the toilet at least 4 times, more so for females since they can't pee standing up in a urinal.
Each flush amounts to around 2. 5 gallons of water, so 20, 000 people will create at least 200, 000 additional gallons of sewage to feed the fishes off the coast of Oahu.
How much "semanship" fluid being emptied from the sacks to fill the AMP places is another interesting calculation?

Still, I agree with you guys. Beautification is great but the maintenance and upkeep is where the real money is spent. And Hawaii doesn't have it.
