Was visiting a club and went to use the lavatory facilities and noticed a commotion. . one of the girls OD'ed on herion. I have a medical background (paramedic) and assisted as she was not breathing blue face the whole nine yards, kept her going til medical help arrived and gave her naloxone to counter the effects. First and just to be clear all addicts that have or are quitting is considered to be a recovering addict because that demon never completely goes away. Some of the things that I have learned from this person about drug use has totally blown my mind. It's not just sleeping constantly or tracks, instead, there are a lot of small things to look for in identifying a user so everyone that is opposed to seeing girls that use H or ICE or whatever drug it may be I'd recommend studying up on the small signs or better yet if you know someone that is a recovering addict just talk to them. While I do not support us seeing girls that are known drug users I do think we should be showing a little more sympathy for their situation in life instead of being so quick to condemn them.

All drugs, but opioids in particular literally change your brain chemistry to reduce you to a state that you would do all kinds of things to get your fix that you would never do for any other reason. What we can be is a supportive friend to the ones that truly want to quit. Until they truly want to quit there is nothing we can do that will help them. Even not seeing them will not help them quit as they will find other ways to get their fix. IMO we should avoid seeing addicts for the sole reason of protecting ourselves and not in a vain effort to do them some sort of a favor. If anyone wants an idea of how bad it is out there just go sit in the parking lot of a drug rehab clinic on any morning of the week and watch the addicts go in and out with their kids in tow. Recovering addicts hate the TV commercials for all the addiction counseling and rehab facilities that advertise people saying they were once an addict and no longer are, which is not true. Addiction is a disease and the infected person will never be cured, a recovering addict is always in remission. You never will hear an alcoholic that is in recovery say they are no longer an alcoholic they say that they are a recovering alcoholic. If you want an education then google Narcotics Anonymous and read up on Addict Behavior. Recovering addicts know that they only keep what they have accomplished by giving it away by helping others so recovering addicts are very willing to discuss their addiction. Step Eight is a list of all that the addict has harmed and the willingness to make amends to them all. Addict behavior extends far beyond using times and can take years of support / counseling to finally correct the "addict behavior" of a recovering addict. Support should be shown to recovering addicts who are truly in recovery. The one behavior that an addict is extremely proficient at is their ability to manipulate, lie, scheme, put up defenses, justify, rationalize and do anything to cover up their addiction. In my case the person I refer to did something that hurt me when that person was an addict and at that time I said goodbye to that person for what I fully intended to be forever. (not in those words though LOL) Six months passed then via email I received a heartfelt apology from that person. (I had the number blocked in my phone) After ignoring the apology for a few weeks I gave in and responded back. It was awkward at first but we started talking a lot and the next thing I knew we had made up and became friends. Even though I have forgiven that person for what happened it is still difficult for me to maintain my trust and faith in that person and every little thing that looks suspicious still causes me to go on high alert. While so far that person has been completely transparent and open with me about everything and even voluntarily offers physical evidence to prove they are not lying about anything it is still an internal struggle for me to not hold the past against that person but to date everything that has came up has in the end made our friendship stronger. You used the term "willingness to make amends" and that is exactly what that person does everyday. With each day that passes I can see more of the real person that's in there coming out and less of the old one that was there. I pray that continues.
