DH kind of works like corgs in the US, because girls keep all tips and the shop has nothing to do with upcharges. They don't take a cut or even want to know what happens. Yes, there is a lot of discrimination and it is a very wide spectrum. 20 years ago I browsed soapland with a Japanese speaking Japanese American friend, but they still wanted to charge him the foreigner tax. Whereas at "light service" shops like oppai pubs, I always got charged the same as locals. There are complicated reasons for this but fs shops more often charge tax and discriminate.

To use oppai pubs as an example, most have minimum language requirements but this is for communication so customers understand the rules and can communicate with staff when being offered extensions and upcharges. If you just go with a Japanese speaking friend, you are welcome even without speaking a word of Japanese. You can even go alone next time (showing a card or receipt from last visit), so the discrimination at light service shops tends to be language alone. Anyone who speaks enough Japanese is let into the vast majority of oppai pubs. One time I saw one Asian guy lead 5 White Amerians into an oppai pub, and the Asian guy could barely speak enough Japanese to do it. The shop's main concern is with guys not running out on their tab or breaking obvious common sense rules. The other main concern is if you can't speak Japanese, how will they upcharge you which is their whole business model. That's why if you go with a friend or are a returning customer, they're cool with you.
