Today only 49.[/QUOTE]Keep in mind, though, that while the vast majority of the counts from the two Oahu prisons are inmates, the count also includes staff that tested positive and the breakdown between inmate and staff will probably never be publicly known. Staff, of course, come and go and are an infection threat as much as anyone else. And, we won't know if / when the staff counts elevate beyond the handful currently testing positive.
Oahu's infection rates are still too high mainly because stupid people are still disregarding guidance about large group gatherings, mask wearing and social distancing. The vaccines coming, alone, are not going to stem the spread. In fact, the goal of the vaccines are to achieve, so-called, "herd immunity", but for that work, we have to have 70-85% vaccination rates and we aren't going even be able to vaccinate nearly that many people for months because the spread is so bad in the United States.
