This just in ... Newschannel 8 just aired a report quoting Joe Redner and a manager at Deja Vu that profits are down in the strip club business. I wasn't taking notes, but I believe Joe was quoted as saying it was down 25 percent at the Mons. I think the unnamed Deja Vu manager noted a similar figure.
Of course since it was TV, there was no clarification on whether that was based on door fees or taking tip-outs from the girls. Apparently there's still no shortage of dancers who can make more than at a "9-5 job."

Yes I sort of knew Phoenixx when she worked at the seven seas years ago, I was actually dating one of the other dancers and she was good friends with Phoenixx. That was when she was dabbling in porn. I don't normally check this topic mainly cause I don't do strip clubs. Although I could relate some nice experiences in the OLD days at the original Lipstixx and some other places in Drew Park.
My question now was prompted by the article about the economy hurting the clubs. Less competition now from the other guys LOL Anyway, what I am curious about. Any guys that have knowledge of all the clubs. Are there any clubs these days that feature thick or big black ladies? I remember a scary place on 50th betw MLK and Hillsborough. Not sure if I would go there again. (I'm white) but also remember Shangri-La on Dale Mabry having some nice girls. This was all years ago.

I think it is still called that and it is still open. I have probably not been there for about a year. The best place in town for black girls of all sizes is Hollywood Nights at Armenia (or Howard) and Columbus. It is only open at night. I have been there several time but with a black friend which probably helped. Everyone there is black except for a few white and hispanic customers. Reminds me from the bar in Harlem Nights. The girls are gorgeous and very friendly. Not so sure I would go there solo thought. Lots of big black girls there also. Just my type.

They abbreviated the name to FDC. I went by yesterday around 5PM. There were only a couple of cars in the lot, so I opted not to venture inside. Sign on the door stated "$7 cover after 6 PM". I have been here since 1999. The scene in several of the Tampa clubs (Pink Pony, PonyTails, Gold Rush, and Diamonds) changed when the owners were charged with RICO violations earlier in this decade and were forced to sell these clubs.
The atmosphere at Ybor Strip also changed because that club also changed owners and management, although it was not involved in the above scandal. It was my favorite club earlier in this decade, then it kind of sucked. Some reports that I have read indicate that it has improved somewhat in the last year, although it is not as good as it was in its glory years.
I can not speak from personal experience, as I have only been there once in the last year.
Club Extasy in Pasco was my favorite club in 2006 and 2007, but was bought by the current owners of the Gold Club in Tampa, changed owners, management, and name (to Emperor's Gold Club), and now sucks.
Unfortunately, I don't have much good news for you, but I have given info that can you use. These days I just go to clubs where I know some girls. Things are not as easy as they once were if you don't know some girls personally. Familiar friendly faces seem to get better treatment.
Try reading this board and some nearby boards for some info on other clubs. Also, some other members here can chime in if their experience differs from mine.
By the way, I always avoided Mons Venus because I assumed and had heard that it is a tourist trap. Maybe it was better in the 1990s when you went. Hmmmm.

Girls would dance thier 2 - 3 songs on stages and be lucky to get 3 bucks in tips. Sometimes no one would out of 8 guys would tip them. Some of the girls were telling me they made $20 - 50 per 8 hour shift. They rarely pocket $100 during the day shift and the girls are feeling the slow down in the economy.

Back when it operated under the old name, there weren't too many lookers in there. It wasn't really my type of crowd so I didn't go very often, only when I would stop in to have a beer with my buddy.
