Currently, her most common downtown location (day or night) is on the Diamond Head side of Nuuanu Avenue, slightly mauka of South Kukui Street. I would guess that most of the female providers in the downtown discount district don't bother to dress up because of a combination of several reasons: (1) rather than trying to look glamorous, they're usually giving relatively inexpensive service (frequently quick car dates) to budget-minded mongers who often have unrefined tastes in women; (2) from their perspective, their money is better spent on more important needs such as drugs, rather than fancy clothing; (3) some are basically homeless or in other unsettled living situations where they can't safely and conveniently keep more expensive clothing; and (4) dressing modestly attracts less attention from the police. Personally, I focus more on a provider's performance and attitude, and couldn't care less whether she's wearing fashionable clothing.

In my observation, mahus in the downtown discount district (in contrast to those working in the somewhat more upscale Merchant Street-Bishop Street-Queen Street area) don't commonly "dress up" in costly clothing, but often do dress more sexily, flamboyantly and revealingly than natural female providers. Perhaps that helps them feel more feminine, and they probably believe it makes them appear more female. Presumably those are both important psychological factors for them.
