It was not this bad 20 years ago, but it's not new either. People were getting stopped by police inside the Zona all the time - I saw it happen to lone guys the most and then it became my turn soon enough. So if you hadn't seen it in recent years, you could say it has come back in fashion. I was searched probably the exact same spot you described, a block from Chicago. Have to say his work was passable, nonetheless I was trying to sell the car and it looked way better afterwards.

One thing I realized after sending him the pixs and getting a quote when I got there early morning he tried to jack up the cost. I stood my ground and negotiated a bit higher cost. Still a good deal.

BTW, Do you know if his detailing makes the grade? Cost?

Carillo's saved me so much money and headache for body work. They can buff and wax the paint, make the car look like new, also vacuum and clean the car inside out. Negotiate a deal with him, but $30-40 would do it.

I have no idea about SENTRI, but GLOBAL ENTRY usually takes 1 to 3 months for conditional approval then schedule an interview. It makes crossing back so quick and easy. Last Thursday it took us only 10 minutes to drive from from Hong Kong back to the US.

I also brought down 2 tires for mounting and balancing by the tire store at the North end of Ave Revolucion, $5 a piece compared to $25 in OC. They also took my $400 alloy wheel to another shop for $25 repair which OC tire shop said not repairable. Ask for Jonathan. He speaks English and is a nice kid. May be I will have them Polish and chrome plate my wheels.

If you bring anything down, hide them in the trunk. If the guards at El Chaparral see anything in the car they will pull you over for inspection then send you to Customs for 20% import tax, causing annoying delays.

I've been to TJ for over 20 years now. Never have I ever ran into the police. I've walked that whole entire block. I usually cross by walking and jump into a taxi right away & get dropped off in the same block.
