Blake, blood in urine, possible UTI, maybe having nothing to do with the cancer event. You might want to research cranberry juice, and / or cranberry supplements, said to be very good against UTIs, and supportive for the bladder in general. But I've never had one of those infections so I don't know from experience.
[/QUOTE]Hey CK. Blood in the urine (and no pain) is one indicator of early bladder cancer (at least this was my case). Determining the cause of the blood is a step-by-step process. Yes, UTI is the first thing any doctor will consider when blood is seen in the urine. They will prescribe a few days worth of antibiotics to see if that eliminates any possible UTI. If that doesn't solve the problem, it means it's not a UTI, and it's time for CT scans (with and without injection of contrast dye). And if CT scans fail to detect any tumors, then a cystoscopy (that's when a miniature camera is inserted into the bladder) is performed, which will definitely find any tumors present. That's how mine was detected.
I've had sporadic cases of an enlarged prostate since my mid-20's. Maybe too much mongering during my days in Thailand was a contributing factor? I don't know. But for the past few years, I have been taking cranberry capsules daily because I believe they are good for overall urinary health.
