NBC (nothing but cops) on SB last night at around 1:00 am. Gave up and went home after seeing the 8th black and white squad car in a five block radius.

Police make a lot of arrests and get conviction based on self-incrimination. If you watch the TV show cops it's amazing how many people incriminate themselves. Just remember that LE is trained to get admissions of guilt. This is why it's always best remain silent and resist the temptation to answer their questions. Always remember that LE is questioning you is to build a stronger case against you.

What I was talking about is called "Manifestation of Prostitution". I saw it on COPS. A guy picks up a girl walking or hitch-hiking or sitting at a bus stop and the cops witness the pick-up. Even though the guy and girl haven't done anything, the fact that a guy is out late at night and picks up a stranger is an indicator that something might be going down and the law gives cops a justifiable cause to pull the guy over and even write both of them a ticket for Manifestation of Prostitution.

It's bullshit because it's making something a crime without having to catch you actually committing a crime. It totally eliminates any pretense of "Innocent until proven guilty". It would be like if you bought a gun and were arrested for "Intent to Murder". You actually have to commit a crime to be guilty of a crime, but stuff like "Manifestation of Prostitution" and "Intent to Distribute" (drugs) are just ways for the legal system to violate your rights. And, no politician is EVER going to set this stuff right, because it's not good for votes to look like you support drug addicts and whormongers.

Actually the manifesting and the loitering laws are almost identical. The loitering laws are used primarily against SW's. But this law has been used by vice to arrest guys as well. LE can give a ticket for picking up a SW, but if one were to challenge the law in court or ask for a trial there is strong chance the prosecutor will drop the case. I am unaware of cops in CA giving a ticket for merely picking up a SW. If you tell the cop you were simply giving the girl a ride then you will win your case. There is case law to protect you if you simply give a girl a ride. I agree that it is a bogus law. Essentially these types of laws are a catch all law.

Started at about 6:30 pm If you were to roll through it, with everything in order, and obviously not intoxicated but with a young lady of a different ethnicity and several years younger than yourself, could they choose to detain you, anyway? Is that profiling, or probable cause. Can they ask her to provide I'd and hassle her if she doesn't have it (most SW don't)?

I got a bullshit pull-over once and one cop ran my license while the other one gave me the third degree on to of the third degree. Talked to me like I was a piece of shit who just needed to be broken before I would confess to just about anything. Finally the other cop came back with my license and just dropped it in my lap and walked away. No apology, not even any declaration that I was clean. Just waved to his partner and they were gone.

You know who you're dealing with by the way cops talk to you. If a girl looks like a hooker, the cop might find a reason to detain you just because he's insulted that you're breaking the law and you think you can get away with it. If they want to find something, they'll find something. If they want to be cool, you'll know it in ten seconds.

As far as avoiding DUI checkpoints, you will notice blocks before the checkpoint that the turn-off streets are blocked by police just so you cannot avoid them. If you turn down the street, they will come get you.
