There is no "slow it down enough to maintain herself". I tried saving a Ho once and finally realized this. Their Addiction is firmly at the controls. I've been to many AA, NA, and Alanon meetings. Listening and talking to addicts and the friends & families of addicts. Until the *addict* has decided for themselves that they MUST change, nothing anyone else says matters. The words of others are meaningless.
The girl I tried to help is under 25 today. She's been thru detox around 2 dozen times and in rehab about 10 times. (Insane, right?) She's currently serving her SECOND state jail term. And how many working girls have 1, 2, 3+ little kids yet still can't get their shit straight even for their own children?? Their Addiction. It's fucking horrible.
(In all those meetings I went to, I only met one ex-opiate addict who'd been clean for more than 10 years.)
