The idea is to help others. In turn, you are helped by others. Especially true if you are a traveler, which I think was sort of the idea behind this place. It's very cool for me to be traveling to, say, Boston, and to be able to read reviews and have a great idea of where to go. That said, I still try unreviewed people or places in other cities, if I'm feeling adventurous or just don't like the reviews, but at least they are there. I say the pros of having this definitely outweigh the cons.
