SEEKONK. Eleven people were arrested Wednesday in a human-trafficking sting by police from a number of agencies.
A law enforcement team comprised of Seekonk police officers and detectives, Department of Homeland Security agents, and detectives from Swansea, Somerset, Mattapoisett, Marion, and Fairhaven police departments, conducted the human trafficking investigation, Seekonk Police Chief XXX said.
The team operated under the auspices of the Human Trafficking Task Force of Rhode Island and the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) Detectives Anti-Crime Unit.
The investigation entailed identifying and arresting people seeking sex for a fee, XXX said.
Investigators tapped social media to post ads, which the 11 men, including a Mansfield man, responded to, meeting undercover officers at a designated location, XXX said.
The following were arrested and charged with engaging in sexual conduct for a fee:
One man, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute Class the (Marijuana) Drug.
The men were taken to the Seekonk Police Station for booking. They were subsequently released on bail, and are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Taunton District Court.
Seekonk motels have been the site of a few sex trafficking incidents in recent years.
