The logic is, if a potential visitor sees ahead of time that it's clearly not the person in the pics, then they won't show up. On the other hand, they figure that if the bait and switch isn't detected until already at the door, then they figure that most will stay anyway, just based on the fact that they have put in the time and effort to get there, clear their schedule etc. Sadly, I would assume this is mostly correct or else they would not continue to do it.

The good news is, you saved yourself some time and expense and probably a huge disappointment, and can have the satisfaction of knowing that you thought with your big head instead of your little head, unlike many.
