But because he pissed off the wrong people in his career, it didn't get much consideration. In reality that's when the project should have started though. Cost would have been lower and would have been much simpler to plan out because development wasn't as high. All morons got to realize Oahu is overdue with a mass transit system. There's many difficulties with it now, but had they started doing it 10 years from now it would be much worse. Hopefully if Maui plans on huge development, they won't procrastinate it like Oahu. I know the city already purchased areas specifically in case they do so which is smart. If I have to guess, many of the guys on here who are against it don't deal with west side traffic much.
Didn't the study say that the rail would remove 2 percent of the traffic off of the freeway. Does that not mean only 2 out of 100 cars would be off the already congested freeway. 2 out of 100 is really nothing at all considering by the time they finish the rail there will be 2 percent more vehicles on the highway anyway. I think its visual pollution too why did they have to elevate the whole thing. This is Hawaii and Island life. Thats why Hawaii gets fucked up we get all these mainland ideas and think its all better or mainlanders trying to influence how they want things to be here. What do we get? Another fucking mainland city.

During his time rail got shot down by 1 vote (Rene Mancho who later went to jail). At that time, federal contribution was going to be 80% of the cost. Well, pay for it or we're going to move a couple of blocks down. " Get the all the developers to kick in and make them pay for some of this stoopit train.

Rail has nothing to do with transportation, and everything to do with construction jobs. What is TOD? It's high density apartments with waived minimum parking requirements for these highrises. Those who chose to live in these "low cost homes" (probably those from the west side and millennials) will find these places unbearably small. Plus no place for your car so take a bus or wait for that mythical train to be built.
We only have 800,000 people living on this island. Municipalities that can sustain rail like Tokyo, NYC, DC, or the Bay Area have millions of people who use it. The train will bankrupt our State and won't lead to the TOD that city planners envision.

Besides Ala Moana and Waikiki, what other shopping centers are getting fairly steady business? Waikele yes, but there is a direct transportation for the tourist there. Pearlridge, has been suffering for a while now because the local community can't support themselves. It's not just malls either but also standalone shops. Why else do you think not much hobby shops are outside of Honolulu. So if the local community can't support businesses then have to look towards tourism to help out. But because there isn't a decent means of transportation for them, not many will go to these areas.

That's still not enough to support a rail system (less than half of population will use it on any regular basis).

Never happen what sounds like our rail? It is really incredible to me that this was forced down our throats by these politicians. It really is but what we have look forward too in the future, a Bankruptcy like the las vegas system when it constantly broke down for a stretch cause no parts and qualified techs to run the system and not enough ridership to keep it running, oh well we can't learn from others mistake I guess.
