"This forum thread is moderated by". On my computer the format is very poor and there is some text that over lays the search text, so it is hard to see. But if you click in the right place you will get the search box and it will only search this section vs the hundreds, if not thousands, of other sections.
If you use the search way at the top just under the ad at the very top you will be searching all the sections, unless you click advanced and select the sections, but is a royal PITA given the number of sections.
This page is WAY WAY WAY too busy with ads and a dated layout. It certainly could be cleaned up and more user friendly for sure. It reminds me of the second Anchorman Ron Burgandy movie when he went national and had all the tickers on the screen with him in a small window in the middle. I do not expect any improvements, why put time into a cash cow. Mongers will come no matter the layout. Upgrades will likely will occur only if there is a compatibility issue or major security flaw is exposed.
Oh and that text over lay hiding the search text, that occurs whether I use different computers or Chrome or Edge. If I use Firefox there is still text over lay, but worse, the search is not even under it, no matter where I click in the area no search box pops up. I did not try on my phone, that may be better. I only use my pone if mobile, I prefer my bigger laptop screen.

But, I was on an Amazon shopping spree and said fuck it. LOL The gamble paid off.
