I was under the impression that pandering was pimping or otherwise being involved with helping working girls, like being their driver or security. I thought being a monger was solicitation which is a misdemeanor compared to pandering being a felony. Am I correct or misunderstanding the law?
I Georgia, pandering is the solicitation of another to perform prostitution on your behalf or on behalf of a third party. Pimping is actually different, though it's not clear to me exactly how (which is why there are lawyers!
Solitication is simply asking someone to commit a crime (usually a felony): hiring a hitman is solicitation. Hiring a prostitute is also solicitation, though of a misdemeanor level (I believe solicitation felony or misdemeanor status mirrors the crime being solicited).
I have (thankfully) never been nabbed (I came close once! But I'll say this: prosecuting something like solicitation isn't necessarily trivial, and it's worth fighting; I'D NEVER nolo or plead guilty. Hire a lawyer and fight that.
The basic way policing of prostitution works is "spam as many arrests and citations as possible, because that will scare away the clients. " These are hardly tidy cases.
(Caveat: I'm not an attorney. Still: talk to one!
