I don't get ripped off, but I have been scammed. The difference? A. You book a date, show up at a hotel, and she goes silent on the room number. B. She opens the door and she is nothing like her pics in her ad. (Dog ugly or passable where you have to make a decision if you want to go with it anyway) C. LE sting.
All three are scams that eat up your time, gas but does NOT have to rip off your hard earned cash. My rules, simple.
A. You arrive and crickets on the reply. I send a text stating she has 10 minutes to reply. (Sometimes they have double booked and will text back). After ten minutes, I leave and I send a text that I am leaving.
I got lucky one time and got a text full of apologies stating she had fallen asleep. I stated that I had to have the room number before I would return, and got the number. I then call the hotel, ask to be transferred to the room and confirm, then I drive back.
B. The door opens and she is not the one in the pics. I leave. To each their own, but I leave. The only way to stop fake pics is to walk. Even if she looks ok, I walk. The ONLY exception is offer her half for the bait and switch. Take it or leave it. If mongers will follow this rule the fake pics will be less. If you walk, you have now burned her time too. Half price, she pays for the deception, and you feel better about it.
C. LE. Has never happened to me because I follow careful guidelines in my texts and / or conversations. LE never sets up the date because they know I will not incriminate myself.
Lastly.
I have posted this before but I will post it again. The only way they scam you for money is if you pay in advance. Tear your donation in half, lengthwise and put it in an envelope. Put the other half in your pocket. They get the other half when you are happy. Worst case, you lose your half (worth nothing) and they get nothing. I have never been ripped off doing this.
I have been mongering for over 40 years. Although not a senior member yet, I have years of experience.
Be smarter than the Ho. Then TOFTT and report on it.
