Latest scam is being called from 212-384-1000 (easy to duplicate call from numbers on a decent cell) and being advised that Special Agent Joe Matthews from the FBI is calling regarding a call placed to a provider this weekend. He has a radio tuned to the police channel in the background -nice sound effects. He then offers to play a tape of the call. Which of course you can't hear over the police radio. When asked if he had a direct number to call back, he indicated that I should answer some questions before hanging up or I will be subject to arrest. Almost believable had it not been for the thick Latin accent. Call back number is for NYC FBI Office maim switchboard though. Just impossible to get through to a real voice.
Soooo, I had him hold on while I conferenced in FBI office in Rye. Have a friend who works there.
All of a sudden Special Agent Joe Matthews got off the line. Nothing. Disappeared. Crickets.
Don't be alarmed after Receiving this call. Request a call back number with extension and have at it.
If anyone has had the same experience, please let us know.
