I read a lot of affidavits for warrants as a side tangent part of my job and LE have a portal with the cell providers where with a warrant, they can pull down triangulation data on any number for any time. Smartphone or flip phone doesn't matter. It's tracking the cell signal. And smartphone vs. Flip phone doesn't matter. Google and Apple track your location data with a smartphone but that's a bear of a warrant to get them to comply with and simply not worth it when the triangulation data is a piece of cake. Assume if they want your burner location they can get it but why would they? They're not going to go get warrants to track a John's cell phone and try to build a case like that when as Camera3 said, they'll just do a sting and catch some guys red handed and have an easy case.

If you are really paranoid then don't turn your burner on in your home. Wait until you are safely away then turn it on and turn it off well before you get home.
