FDA warns Viagra tied to hearing loss
Impotence drugs will soon bear new warnings about possible risk

WASHINGTON - Viagra and other impotence drugs are about to bear new warnings that users may experience sudden hearing loss.
It’s not clear that the drugs truly trigger hearing loss, but the Food and Drug Administration decided Thursday to add a warning about the possible risk after counting 29 reports of the problem since 1996 among users of this family of medicines.
The impotence drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra will bear the warnings. So will Revatio, a drug for pulmonary hypertension, which contains the same ingredient as Viagra.
Viagra’s label already mentioned hearing loss as a possibility, because a few cases were reported during initial testing of that drug. But given that hearing loss is a risk of advancing age and certain conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease, that can lead to impotence, it wasn’t clear if the link was real.
That still isn’t clear, said FDA ear nose and throat specialist Dr. Robert Boucher.
But in poring over FDA’s database of possible drug reactions, what struck him was these 29 reports said the hearing loss occurred within hours to two days of taking one of the drugs.
“We don’t know enough to say that it’s ironclad caused by the drugs, but we see enough to say we can’t ignore it either,” he said.
The reports involve hearing loss in one ear, which in a third of cases was temporary.
FDA urged patients who experience any hearing problems — loss or ringing in the ears — to promptly call their doctors and stop taking the impotence drugs.

I agree there is a lot of flagging going on in w4m section, but for the most part the ads being flagged are the scam adds from chicks with cam sites. Also, a lot of fakes who are asking you to contact them via their yahoo chat ID or E-mail address, but they don’t have any other contact info about them, I do flag. They ask you to go to some site for the age verification and than when you do you have to register using your credit card and supposedly that will take you to the page where you can find her contact info. Unfortunately that is bunch of BS. For all I know, some unfortunate soul will try that, register and than either get charged just to find out it was fake. Or even worse, his info will be collected by LE, and it will make him an easy pick. Unless his identity was stolen, there is little about he can do to say it wasn’t him. There are maybe 4 or 5 ads that look like they are true providers and you see them all the time. Any ad without a phone number, regardless if it has a picture or not, I personally will flag them all as spam, but that is only in w4m section of erotic service. It is not hard to spott the fake ad from those that are legit. In other sections I only look but never flag because for the most part it is very hard to tell what’s a true ad and what isn’t so I leave them all alone.

Today I was reading that in Orlando, Florida, the police have arrested three staff members of a newspaper, the Orlando Weekly, for allegedly accepting advertisements in the newspaper for prostitution services. The newspaper staff members were not engaging in prostitution themselves, but only assisting in placing newspaper advertisements. Here's the news report from Editor & Publisher:

'We did send them letters and that worked at the time, but this time they told us to go pound sand,' Lutz said, explaining why the arrests were made."

"The unusual round of arrests raises questions whether MBI will take on internationally known Web site Craigslist. MBI recently wrote a letter to the CEO of Craigslist requesting the Internet site remove all of its prostitution ads dealing with Orlando. Craigslist has not yet replied."[/quote]
Hopefully this type of police harassment will not spread to Hawaii and affect advertisements in the PennySaver, Honolulu Advertiser, etc.

I wonder what the ads said, exactly.

Hopefully, that newspaper will sue and win the case. It doesn't seem right.
If they were blatant prostitution ads, saying "Call this number and a girl will have sex with you." then I'd call it aiding and abetting. But, as we all know, escorts can say they provide the service of innocent dates, and MPs can advertise as legal massages. So, how can the newspapers be held responsible for what the business actually do, when not doing the legal activity that they claim to do? The cops probably think the advertisers "should know" what goes on, but that would be out of place for the advertisers to judge, don't you think? I don't think that arrest will stand up in court. I think the cops were just pissed off that they were told to take a hike at first.

If a newspaper helps advertise for a personal accountant, and I hire the guy who then rips me off and bilks me of all my money, can I have the advertisers arrested for aiding and abetting?

Here in Hawaii, I recall THE PUBLIC complaining about the advertisements in newspapers that were "shady", and there was a voluntary avoidance of such businesses' ads for while. I never heard about what happened after that, but those ads for our favorite places are back in the sports sections. I wonder what happened...

If they would only serve and protect the public as they are supposed to they wouldn’t worry if someone good tax payer is getting blown around the corner in exchange for some cash. They are letting muggers, drug dealers, mafia, car robbers, rapists, etc. run around free, yet they are arresting some dude for exchanging little cash for little ass, writing tickets if you run the red light or stop sign, or if you are going 5 miles over the speed limit. All of those activities make me really feel served and protected. Very nice, I am sure they give each other pat on the backs for a job well done, and they can happily hit all the donuts shops around the town and celebrate the big bust. No wonder why our crime rate is pretty high and hard to control. I would like to say that I hope Orlando PD gets a big fine for what they did, but than agian, who would be paying for it but us again in higher taxes.

Don't know if it was on at 6PM but this website address as well as the topics were visible for nearly 30 seconds. I think the rep for the downtown area Rhoades (sp) , was shocked at the info on this "blog".

I just read that Rhoades has introduced a bill making a john's third arrest for soliciting prostitution a felony.

He needs more customers for the prisons he wants to build in Hawaii. Real
bright wanting to fill an already overcrowded prison system with guys who commit harmless petty crimes and let the ice heads out.

I've seen meth labs raided, evidence taken, and no arrests made and as soon as they restock on chemicals, there back in bussness, but the guy with a gram of ice in his pocket gets cruxified.

The idea is that if you destroy the customer base, then the dealers will stop selling. And it's easier to do since it's easier to catch someone and prosecute them with possession than it is with manufactoring and selling (At least it seems that way.).

" So for example, if the idea of "logic" is to destroy customer base, what should we advise these labor right activist groups that are trying to destroy Wal-Mart? Perhaps they should compare notes with LE and learn how to destroy some 180 million Wal-Mart’s customer base in order to have the company to comply with their demands. Don’t get me wrong, this is not to attach either side. It’s just an extreme example how "logic" can be illogical. I love Wal-Mart and shamelessly shop there before going to any other store. I see Hinode has been on a tear lately. I've got limited funds (that damn Wii was expensive) and limited time to monger (self employed). I'm impressed by the all the posts and tax free money we dole out.
