A webcam scam has appeared on Anchorage's Backpage, Dating, Women for Men section in recent weeks. The modus operandi is as follows:
1) an ad mimicking the ad of a known local provider appears but with TGTBT photos of a glamorous model type (not the local provider) and an out-of-state number.
2) texting with the number seems to be a 'bot' on the other end, a little repetitive and not directly answering questions.
3) the texts guide you to a website where you're asked to sign up and spend $26 on a webcam show before the girl can actually meet with you, she says it's for her 'safety' and that she'll deduct the $26 from the cost of in-person meeting after the web show.
We've seen this before; about 8 months ago there was a similar scam. What's pernicious about this one is that it literally copies and repeats the ads of real local girls.
Wondering if anyone has had any contact with Piper in the last few months? Haven't heard from or seen anything of hers in a while now.
