Commutes here are similiar to San Francisco in that there are a ton of water barriers, and everything gets squeezed into a few narrow corridors. Bellevue is going to save you alot of time going to / from your conference, not to mention bridge tolls if your commute takes you over 520. From a hobby standpoint, I see very little difference between Bellevue and Seattle, companionship is easily found in either city. If you were looking to do any of the "must see" tourist attractions such as the Space Needle or Pike Place Market, then yes, Seattle has more to offer.

I live on the Seattle side of Lake Washington. There are alot of ladies I've been interested in seeing whom I haven't, simply because going to a Bellevue or Redmond incall seems like such a hassle. You're talking about outcall anyway, so unless you're being limo'd from your chosen hotel to the conference, or you care about seeing the tourist sights, staying in Bellevue makes alot more sense.

I am also faced with this dilemma of selecting a hotel when I am visiting. My comments are as follows.

Avoid downtown Hilton. Major renovations and it doesn't measure up to Hilton standards.

Westin: I got hit up with extra charges for items in the mini-bar that I was unable to avoid paying for. Great location. Nice views available.

Crown Plaza: Has a good view. Very plain. Less optimal location.

Sheraton: Great but it is often booked.

If money is no object, then either the Olympic Fairmont or Hyatt Olive 8 would be the best bet to impress your visitors. Otherwise, the Edgewater is legend as denoted in a Frank Zappa tune "Mudshark."

To be closer to SW action near the stroll and the Spaceneedle, then the Best Western Executel or the Holiday Inn both good bets and they have a swimming pool and will be kinder to a budget. Hey you are on expense account right.

I have also stayed in some to the boutique hotels you are talking about but I think they can be overpriced. You can PM if a opinion on a property would be helpful.
