Question for you guys down in the Miami area (I'm up in Tampa Bay).
Seems like it'd be fairly easy to do weekend trips to Central and South America. Places like the DR, Costa Rica, Colombia. It looks like there are quite a few places you can fly within 3-4 hours so you could fly out Thursday or Friday evening and come back on Sunday. Do any of you do that regularly (say once a month)? Is there something I'm missing that makes it impractical, or just a pain in the ass? Even 3 hours on a plane might get old pretty quick. I realize that when you factor in the travel costs the low prices in the destination get cancelled out. It's more about convenience, supply, not having to worry about LE, etc.
Colombia has more to offer than Costa Rica. Stay away from street girls and the price range can be as low as 25 dollars and high as 100 dollars but the average is about 50 dollars depending on the exchange rate. Which is great at the moment. I average a trip every other month to Colombia and I go Costa Rica every 6 months or so. That's my two cents.
